\"Le<\/a>Gitta Mallasz succinctly indicates at the end of the Dialogues with the Angel<\/em> that Hanna \u2013 the voice of the Angels \u2013 and Lili died of exhaustion in a sealed wagon, where seventy-five unfortunate people were piled up for an interminable journey from North to South Germany, from Ravensbr\u00fcck to Burgau. Sixteen days in February 1945, under the Allied bombs, hell for these women devoid of everything, shivering, their feet in excrement. Hanna and Lili had no burial, but a young woman was there who accompanied them until their last breath: Eva Danos<\/a>. To flee the Nazis, this young Hungarian hid in 1944 in the uniform factory of Katalin<\/a> directed by Gitta Mallasz, attended some of the last dialogues, then voluntarily accompanied Hanna and Lili to deportation and boarded the fateful train with them... German military hospital where a Benedictine recommended her to write down what she had experienced.
\nIt is this story originally written in Hungarian which appeared in French on January 12, 2012 by Albin Michel under the title The last convoy<\/em>. This is a single document. To our knowledge, there is no other testimony of what happened in these convoys, the ultimate instruments of Nazi torture where the victims fought among themselves, thus becoming their own torturers. His reading does not leave unscathed, even if tiny gestures and meager words indicate that there was still some humanity in this universe without mercy.<\/p>\n

Sixty-seven years separate the writing of the book and its publication in French, almost the time of a lifetime. Resolutely positive after the war, Eva will not dwell on her past. She will start her life again in Australia after a stay in France, where to bear witness to the cruelty of Nazism, she will have her story published in a newspaper in Haut Doubs, Le Pontissalien. It was at the insistence of her family that she took over the text, translated it into English and published it on her own at the end of the 1980s. Then Robert Hinshaw, international publisher of Dialogues with the Angel<\/em>, will publish it in English<\/a> and in German<\/a> and will write, in the afterword of the French edition, the portrait of this extraordinary woman.<\/p>\n
